Spy Game
San Francisco
I did Escape Oakland's newest room, The Spy Game, today and it was very challenging but also quite fun. It's their toughest room, with an 8-10% escape rate. (There seems to have been some misinformation on here stemming from another reviewer's description of the room difficulties based on their subjective opinion, but the website posts the % escape rates for each room.)_x000D_ _x000D_ I'd recommend The Spy Game for groups of experienced escape roomers. If your team has first-timers, you might want to consider one of their easier rooms instead. I think first-timers might feel a little frustrated by this one. It's not the flashiest room, but there are a ton of puzzles to chew on and lot of variety in types of puzzles. I think this is a great room to try if you're someone who is really in it for the puzzles and a good challenge. I'm not as into rooms that have Hollywood-movie-set-esque decorations but easy puzzles, so I'm glad I chose this one._x000D_ _x000D_ I was on the fence about giving them a 4 or a 5, but settled on 5 because they were patient with my team after we didn't escape the room in time. In addition to giving us like 10 minutes extra, they were nice about one of the guys who kept trying to continue to solve stuff when they were explaining the clues to us, etc._x000D_ _x000D_ My general feeling is that even though they are relatively new and don't have the super fancy bells and whistles of some of the larger and more established escape room companies, they seem dedicated to trying to make solid puzzles/rooms. I think they'll continue to improve their rooms and the experience overall.

The Bunker
San Francisco
Had a great time at Escape Oakland! If you're looking for a fun and unusual experience in the Bay area, this is the place the check out. The room was challenging but very interesting, and got our creative juices flowing as a team! Owners were warm and friendly (and helped us when we needed some clues ). Highly recommend!

The Bunker

What an adventure! We had a blast, and I can't wait to go back! "The Bunker" was full of surprises, and it was perfect for our group of friends. We were able to escape from the room with a few clues._x000D_ _x000D_ The location is perfect with a lot of street parking and walking distance to the bart station._x000D_ _x000D_ The host was awesome! She explained all rules to us as for some of us it was first escape room. Thanks a lot!!!

The Society
San Francisco
WOW. I have to say this placed has really stepped it up with their new room! If you haven't I highly recommend the Society room especially if you are new to escape rooms. As someone who has done over 50, this room is very solid._x000D_ _x000D_ It's a nice room with several varieties of puzzles throughout. None felt too hard or poorly designed. I played the room with 2 others and it felt very comfortable and nothing felt impossible. Everything went at a smooth pace. We were all experienced, so we all took our time and didn't feel the urge to rush. With that said we still had a out 5 minutes remaining._x000D_ _x000D_ There were some locks here and there, but it also had its fair share of electronic puzzles as well. (Thankfully nothing glitched)._x000D_ _x000D_ I highly recommend this room if you are a beginner to escape rooms because it contains the basics that most rooms give to you throughout the country. And if you are an expert still play it because you can't go wrong._x000D_ _x000D_ The lobby is nice and the staff is nice as well, but overall if you have played a game here before.... YOU NEED TO COME BACK and play Society because this hands down is the best room here. That's a fact. Not an opinion.

Ex Machina
San Francisco
I've played Ex Machina and their new game The Society. Both were fun! Game master Theo was friendly and explained rules and game story thoroughly. Game themselves had good design, non-standard puzzles and solid support throughout the game. Lobby has some board games so you won't get bored while waiting._x000D_ _x000D_ Nice place! Will come back for more :)

Ex Machina
San Francisco
This place is awesome! I played 2 of their 4 games, Ex Machina and their newest game the society. Both had super immersive set design, creative stories and cool techy puzzles. There aren't a lot of escape room options in the east bay, so I'm super glad this place opened!

Fantastic fun and more to come! We will return as soon as possible to do the other rooms._x000D_ _x000D_ Room: Ex Machina_x000D_ _x000D_ Overall: Wonderful, friendly, and open customer service, Intriguing premise and unique "in world" tech and appropriately "authentic" props for immersion. Not too linear but becomes more linear as you near the finale. Enjoyable, relatively non-complicated tech and puzzles. The puzzles are strong and logical but certainly not too easy. No tedious task "puzzles" that can waste time._x000D_ _x000D_ Outcome: We didn't make it but came close by being in the home stretch of the last set of challenges_x000D_ _x000D_ Time: Visited during soft opening several weeks ago; owner was extremely open and honest with us about the additional challenges that this may entail but it did not take away from the wonderful experience in the least. Should only get even better and better._x000D_ _x000D_ Team: 4 - 2 adults and 2 teens - we've done 6 escapes rooms previously_x000D_ _x000D_ Difficulty: This was a challenging room for us but not impossible; This would be very challenging to first timers.
