The people of St. Mary's County have heard of the legend of the Moll Dyer Witch. In the late 1600s, Moll Dyer was a hermit who lived in the forest away from the other settlers. When bad things like crop failures, unusual storms, sudden unexplained deaths and unusual accidents happened, the settlers blamed Moll Dyer. One winter a group of settlers went to their hut and set it on fire._x000D_Moll Dyer fled into the forest. A few weeks later a boy found her frozen body. Her body was kneeling beside a rock, one hand raised like a spell and the other rested on a small stone that bore an imprint of her hand (this stone can be seen today in downtown Leonardtown). At first the settlers were relieved until their problems started again._x000D_Now you can go back to her hut and find out if she really was a witch!
